Meet the third and final of our amazing TnG Apparel Ambassadors - Jess Rooney. Jess is an incredible athlete, with strength, determination and commitment we all admire. She loves to push herself to see how far her body will take her at every workout, but always with that important sense of fun and camaraderie. Jess has answered a few questions to help you get to know her a little.
Please introduce yourself.
Hello, my name is Jess Rooney. I am 22 years old and have been doing CrossFit for about three years, but only more seriously for the past 12 months. I tend to train six days a week for about an hour on weekdays and two hours on Saturday morning. I have always tried my best to do some sort of exercise, whether it was a simple walk in the afternoon or doing a programmed weights/cardio session at a gym. Starting CrossFit was just purely a matter of doing the two free introductory sessions and from then I was hooked. Being part of the CrossFit Bunbury family has been an amazing part of my life, where I have been able to build confidence within myself and made some amazing friends.
How is good health and wellbeing a part of who you are and what do these concepts mean to you?
Health and wellbeing are important to me to give myself the best chance at a long and healthy life. These concepts have also become very important for my training and the effects it can have on the outcome on my training days. I feel it is necessary for me to understand and practice a healthy lifestyle at a younger age so I can continue it throughout my entire life. I also believe having a healthy lifestyle has a huge impact on keeping mentally healthy.
Sustainability is important to the TnG team, our kids and their future. Tell us your views on sustainability and what this means to you.
I believe it is important for our current generation to take responsibility and create sustainable products now to provide a healthy future for the next generation and beyond. This has always been a constant issue in which I try to do my small part, such as using reusable bags or cardboard boxes that can be recycled to bring home shopping.
Sustainable products means to me less waste and more renewable products, both which will benefit this planet we call home.
What are your plans, hopes and aspirations for the future?
In the future I would love to continue my CrossFit journey and see what I can achieve. This would include entering some more local RX individual competitions as well as team competitions to further my confidence in competing and push for further improvement.
I hope to always have some sort of CrossFit activity in my life to maintain a healthy lifestyle, as well as continue the enjoyment from seeing and socialising with friends I have made at there.
As for work and life in general, I would love to get out and see/experience what the big wide world had to offer, but the rest is completely unplanned and left to where the universe would like to take me.
Lastly, your favourite workout is...?
My favourite workout would have to be DT, a hero workout consisting of five rounds of 12 deadlifts, nine hang power cleans and six push jerks, all at 47.5kg. This one would have to be my favourite because I enjoy all the movements and the weight is pretty reasonable, but never underestimate it because it always manages to get spicy quickly. Also, being a hero workout makes you always try and push that extra little bit in honour of the fallen heroes.
